Sizing For The Common DOL-Fin

The foot bindings are available in two different styles of straps:

  • Quick-Adjust Binding Straps are hydrodynamically clean to maximize swimming efficiency.  They have no side buckles and the heal straps lay flush to the flow.  Since the size adjustment is a part of binding the foot into the fin, there are no additional adjustments to make for different sized feet within the straps size range, so you can just grab it and go.  These straps can typically be adjusted tighter than the Quick-Clip Binding Straps to feel more secure to your feet, and they are fully adjustable for both foot position and snugness while wearing the fin in water.

  • Side-Clip Binding Straps use heal straps with plastic side buckles to engage the heal strap along the side of your foot similar to many other common SCUBA fins.  When sitting, the buckles can be clipped while reaching around the side of your leg to reach the clip rather than reaching forward over your knees as is required with Quick-Adjust Binding Straps.  Reaching forward over your knees is not easily accomplished when you have pony or stage bottles hanging on the front of your harness, and so the Side-Clip Binding Straps were introduced provide a solution.  The Quick-Clip Binding Strap uses hook-and-loop fastener for size adjustments only and should to be properly adjusted to fit prior to entering the water for your dive.

To determine the binding strap size you need, take a measurement around your foot, while wearing the dive-boot or dive-sock you are intending to use with the DOL-Fin.  The DOL-Fin is not intended to be used with bare feet.  Take the measurement as shown in the diagram below.

We recommend the use of soft sole dive-boots over those with a hard sole.  The rounded edges of soft sole dive-boots and dive-socks will produce a better fit for your feet within the side rails of the DOL-Fin's Base Plate.  We discourage the use of dive-boots that have layers built up around the ankle that restrict foot motion as this configuration would promote fin orientations exhibiting more form drag.
